Finals week 1
Colts the only winners, league and ressies down to last chance
Well it wasn't the perfect way to start our finals campaign, but all our hard work in the season has given us the second chance.
It was good to see the colts boys step up and want to win. It showed that their not ready to hang the boots up just yet, but it did take them till the final term to get the lead and eventually the win by a single point. Best players were Joe Nichols, Troy McClean, Jobe MacShane and Adam Wera.
Well I don't know if the ressies went into the game thinking that it will be just like last time and the win will come, or that Eaton out played us. What ever it was it means we've only got one chance left. Best players were Ryan Pearson, Alex Trombetta, Aaron Prince and Mick Milner.
The league boys went into the game with 2 wins over AMR, but just like all the previous derbys, all previous form means nothing. The boys started out looking good in the first half, but then AMR hit back and stormed home with the win. Best players were Dan Whitehead, Sammy Shepherd, Jordan Eastwell and Brant Roberts.
With the league and ressies down to their last chance now, hopefully it will ignite that spark and they can charge home strong.
Remember there is no excuse, belt up.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Jacko the game saver
This weeks action had us on the road taking on HBL under lights at Brunswick on Saturday.
The colts boy’s seemed to just not have their heads in it, and that resulted in HBL taking the win by 28 points. The loss also saw the boy’s go from 3rd to 4th on the ladder, resulting in them losing their second chance for the finals. Best players were Mitch Sidebottom, Damian Lee, Jobe MacShane and Mason Hislop.
The ressies continued on their merry way with a 33 point win over the lions. The win saw them also take the 2nd spot and grab that double chance. Best players were Ryan Wellings, Jake Reynolds, Sean Trombetta and Scott Newlands.
The league boy’s put up a great fight that saw them take the win by 3 points. They too also finished in 2nd spot and grabbed the double chance for the finals. Best players were Jordan Eastwell, Nic Hammond, James Price and Jacko Arbon.

The ressie’s take on Eaton in the qualifying final.
The league will play Augusta Margaret River in the qualifying final.
Congratulations must go out to Sammy Shepherd on his 150th league and also to Dan Whitehead on his 50th league game last week against HBL. It was a great win for the boy’s leading into the finals.

League boy's just fall short
This round had the club taking on South Bunbury in our last home game for the season. It was good to see such a big crowd get out to the club to watch so thanks to all that could make it.
Well it was good to see the clots boys get back on the right track, handing the tigers a 25 point defeat. Best players were Damian Lee, Troy Mclean, Jacob Nolan and Joe Nichols.
The ressies just seem to be getting better as it comes to the business end of the season. The 2’s were able to get up 50 points against Souths. Best players were Keagan Watson Richards, Sean Trombetta, Jake Reynolds and Scott Newlands.
Well the league boy’s almost got across the line but just fell short, going down by 7 points in what was a vast improvement from the 65 point hiding from last time the 2 teams meet in round 8. Best players were Dan McGinlay, Jordan Eastwell, Jay Reynolds and Pete Jetta.
This week has the club on road against HBL were all 3 teams are needing a win going into the finals.

Round 16
One of each, lose, win and a draw
Well this week had us at home taking on the Eaton Boomers in what would be 3 hard games for the club.
Following their loss to Bunbury last week, the colts were looking to come out and hit back against the boomers, but it just didn't happen. From the start the boy's stumbled and just couldn't get back up. At the first term break it was the boomers up by 8 goals. The second term saw the pies keep the scoring to a minimum for the boomers, but couldn't get convert in front of the big sticks. at the half time break it was Eaton by 56 points. The gates opened up in the third term for the boomers, slotting home 6 majors to the pies lone goal to extend their lead out to 88 points. the final term saw the magpies hold the boomers to only 2 majors while also kicking 2 themselves. The final score saw the boomers get up by 85 points. Best players were Damian Lee, Jack Smith, Joe Nicholls and Jobe McShane.
The ressie's came out firing in the first term, piling on 4 majors to the boomers lone goal. The second term saw things even out, with the boomers holding the magpies to only 2 majors for the term while kicking only 1 for themselves. At the halt time break it was the magpies up by 25 points. The third term saw the pies convert 3 majors in front of the big sticks while Eaton could only manage a single goal for the efforts. the final term saw the pies extend their lead out to 40 points to take the win. Best players were Jake Grylls, Sean Trombetta, Kim Harper and Scotty Wagner.
The league boy's were looking to stitch up 2nd spot this week with a good win over the boomers as there are only 2 games left for the season. However Eaton had the same idea and came out charging. The first term saw the magpies only able to convert a lone point while Eaton kicked 2.4 for their opening term. The second term saw the magpies come out and convert 4 majors to the boomers 2, taking the margin to 15 points in favor of Eaton at the half time break. The third term saw both teams accurate in front of the big sticks with the magpies kicking 3 majors, but it was the boomers 4 majors that saw them keep the lead going into the last term. The final term saw the boomers open the scoring with a goal, but it was a late rally by the magpies that saw them convert 4 majors in the last 5 minutes to square everything up. It would come down to one last ruck contest that saw handballs link up the play and the ball lands in the hands of one Jay Reynolds who you would put your life on to convert the goal. But it was not to be as an Eaton smother saw the ball land short and a pile up form as the siren went. The end being both teams all even at 11 goals 6 points each. Best players were Jay Reynolds, Jordan Eastwell, Jonny Meadmore and Jonny Taylor.
This week has us at home against South Bunbury on Saturday night in what is our last home game for the year. We want to see everyone out and about in there black and white on Saturday.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.
There is no excuse, Belt Up

Round 15
2 out 3
Well 2 out of 3 isn’t bad. That was the case when the magpies made the trek to Bunbury to take on the bulldogs. The colts boy’s were looking good until the last term, when the bulldogs pulled away to take the win by 15 points. Best players were Blake Riley, Josh fleming, Tom Beagley and Jacob Kosicki.
The ressiesgame was a very low scoring affair until the last term, were the magpies kicked away to come home with a 40 point win. Best players were Jake Reynolds, Dylan Powell, Brett Pitt and Mike Blythe.
The league game was being called the game of the round by many, as the inform magpies were looking to hold on to their 2nd place on the ladder, while the bulldogs were looking to push for a place in the final 5. The game lived up to it’s expectations, with only a goal separating the two teams at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd term breaks. But it was the magpies that controlled the final term to see them get home by 34 points. Best players were Tim Ioannou, Jordan Eastwell, Brant Roberts and Brent Snook.
This week has the magpies hosting the Eaton Boomers on Sunday. Hope to see the black and white army out and about.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 14
Pies tame bulls for treble at home
Well the club just keeps on rolling along nicely. This week had the magpies hosting the Harvey Bulls at Bovell on Sunday in what was a big day for the club as they were celebrating head trainer Arthur Hutchins' 2000th club game.
The colts boy's didn't have much of an opposition in the winless bull's, and it showed from the first siren. The opening term saw the magpies pile on the goals, converting 8 majors while the bulls could only manage a single point for their efforts. The second term saw the Bulls fight back with 2 goals, but the magpies were able to add a further 6 goals to go into the half time break 80 points up. The third term saw a similar goal tally as the second, with the magpies kicking 6 majors to the bulls 3 to extend their lead out to 99 points. the final term saw the magpies pile on 7 more majors to the bulls 2 to come home victors by 127 points. Best players were Brandon Hughs, Blake Riley, Mason Hislop and Jesse Gautrey.
The ressie's were looking to continue their good form with a good win over the Bulls and do so they did. The first term saw the magpies convert 6 majors through the big sticks while the bulls were inaccurate in front of goal, kicking 5 points. The second term saw the Bulls inaccuracy at it's best as they piled on 7 more points and only 2 majors. the Magpies didn't have any troubles with their radar for the term, as they added 9 majors to their score to go into the half time break 69 points up. The third term was once again all magpies, as they piled on 8 more majors to Harvey's 1 lone goal. the final term saw the black and white machine unleash and dominate the term with 12 more majors, while holding the bulls to a single point for the term. The end saw the magpies get home by 196 points. Best players were Ryan Wellings, Jake Grylls, Keagan Watson Richards and Chris Hutchins.
Last time these two league teams meet, it was the bulls getting the win by 7 points in what was a goal kicking master class put on by both Brad Smith and Ben Grace. this time however it was the pies getting the win. The first term saw both teams come out firing, but it was the magpies that took the quarter, out score Harvey 5 majors to 3. The second term was once again a magpie affair, kicking 4 more majors and holding the bulls to only 2 points to extend their lead out to 36 points going into the half time break. the third term saw the bulls come out and get 2 quick goals, but that just sparked the pies as they went on to kick 6 more goals for the term to take the lead out to 61 points. The final term saw the Bulls out score the magpies with 5 majors to 3, but the pies had done enough to take the win at the final siren. Best players were Jonny Meadmore, Matt Harbeck, Aaron Baker and Brent Snook.
this week has the magpies on the road taking on Bunbury. Let's aim for another treble and I hope to see the black and white army out and about.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 13
League boys come home strong
Well it was good to see that the two week break didn’t affect the players too much, with the league and ressie’s getting up and beating Carey park. The colts boy’s fell oh so close, going down by just 5 points in the end. Best players were Jarrad Northover, Blake Riley, Adam Werra and Damian Lee. The ressie’s started out slow in the first, but then came home strong to get up by 34 points. Best players were Keiren Parfitt, Donald Turvey, Keagan Watson Richards and Scott Wagner. The league boy’s looked to be in for a tough game at the start, but turned it around in the 3rd to get home victors by 85 points. Also a big congratulations must go out to head trainer Arthur Hutchins who will be taking part in his 2000th club game as a trainer for the black and white. Round 12
Magpies go into bye with a treble
This week had the magpies taking on their southern cousins in Augusta Margaret River, for the Busselton Toyota cup proudly donated by Laurie Saltarini.
With the colts boy's sitting only a single win above the hawks on the ladder, it was going to be a good game.
The first term saw both teams converting in front of the goals on 3 occasions, and at the first term break there was only a point the difference to the magpies. The second term saw Busselton take control and extend their lead with 4 more majors while the hawks could only manage a lone goal. At the half time break, the margin was out to 22 points to Busselton. The third term saw the hawks out score the magpies 2 goals to 1, but it wasn't enough to grab the lead, and at the third term break the margin was 19 points to the magpies. The final term saw the magpies pile on 6 more majors to the hawks 3, to come home victors by 38 points. Best players were Josh Fleming, Keiren Parfitt, Jason Fish and Jake Nolan.
With a couple of good wins under their belt, the ressie's were looking to give the un-beaten hawks a run for their money, and do so they did. The first term saw Busselton open up the scoring with 5 majors, while the hawks could only manage 2 goals of their own. The second term saw the hawks come back and out score the magpies for the term 3 majors to 2, but the magpies had done enough in the first to go into the half time break 18 points up. The third term saw Busselton turn it up and slot home 4 goals while holding the hawks to only 2, to extend their lead out to 32 points. The final term saw the hawks have a late come back, kicking 4 majors to the magpies single goal, however the magpies had done enough to get home. The final siren saw the magpies get up by 13 points to give AMR their first loss for the season. Best players were Jake Grylls, Keagan Watson Richards, Aaron Prince and Ryan Pearson.
Last time these two teams meet it was Busselton getting up by 4 points in what was an hard fought game. And with a sold out crowd at Bovell, many were hopping for the same. The first term saw both teams come out and convert 3 majors, but it was the hawks that took the lead at the break by 5 points. The second term however was all Busselton, as the magpies piled on 6 more goals to the hawks 3. The half time break saw Busselton up by only 13 points. The third term saw both teams come out and kick 3 majors each, and at the third term break it was Busselton still in front by 12 points. The final term saw Busselton come out and slot home 5 majors and hold the hawks to only a lone goal. The final siren saw the magpies get up by 35 points. Best players were Sammy Shepherd, James Price, Jay Reynolds and Daniel MaGuinley.
This week see's the competition on a break for the Landmark country championships were Busselton will be represented by big man Brent Hall. The following week is also a bye so see you all in 2 weeks.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 11
back to back trebles
Well there's no better feeling then coming back down the hill with another treble, this time against Collie. It's what the club needed leading into their clash against Augusta Margaret river this week.
The colts started out slow against the eagles in the first term, seeing both teams find the goals on multiple occasions. At the break it was the magpies up by a lone goal. The second term saw the magpies add a further 5 majors to their score and hold out Collie to only 2 majors to extend their lead to 16 points going into the half time break. After the main break, an inaccurate lot of magpies came out. I say inaccurate as the young pies managed to kick a woeful 3 goals 7 points for the third term while the eagles kick 2 goals straight. The young pies found their radar for the last term, kicking 7 majors to Collie's lone goal. The final siren saw the magpies get up by 74 points. Best players were Adam Wera, Ash Conroy, Damian Lee and Josh Fleming.
Well the ressie's were treated to a blast from the past as league coach Darrian Cheffers donned the black and white to make his debut for the club. Chopper showed that he still had it, slotting 2 majors and gathering a couple dozen touch's. The first term saw the magpies come out and dominate the term, slotting home 7 majors to Collie's nothing. The second term was much the same as the first, but with the Collie' eagles scoring a lone point, while the magpies booted 2 more majors to go into the half time break 61 points up. The third term saw the eagles get a major up on the board, but it was nothing compared to the magpies 6 majors that saw them extend their lead to 91 points going into the last. The final term saw the magpies add a further 8 majors to Collie's 2 to come home strong. the final siren saw the pies get up by 125 points. Best players were Jake Reynolds, Ryan Wellings, Keagan Watson Richards and Tom Sibson.
The league boy's were looking to gather some momentum and confidence with a good win over Collie for their clash against AMR this week. The magpies started out slow, much like the colts did in the first term, and at the first term break both teams were all even on 2 goals 3 points. The second term saw the magpies capitalize on the eagles inaccuracy in front of the big sticks that saw them kick 2 goals 3, to the magpies 3 goals 1. At the half time break it was the magpies up by 4 points. After the half time break, the magpies came out firing, converting 8 majors in front of the big sticks to Collie's 3 majors to see the margin out to 35 points to the magpies at the third term break. The final term saw the Collie eagles mount a late flurry of goals, kicking 4 to the magpies 3, but it wasn't enough as the end saw the magpies get up by 31 points. Best players were James Price, Jordan Eastwell, Dave Whitehead and George Blyth.
This week has the magpies at home on Saturday night taking on the Augusta Margaret River Hawks were the league teams play off for the Busselton Toyota cup, proudly donated by Laurie Saltarini.
Don't forget that this Saturday night after the footy the club is going back to the 80's. Come dressed in your best 80's kit and enjoy the night.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 10
Treble over the Don's
Now that's the way to bounce back after a losing treble last week, 3 wins over Donnybrook. It was just what the club needed to put their season back on track.
With their opposition having only 1 win for the season, the young magpies were looking to capitalize on this with a good percentage boasting win. The first term saw the magpies control the majority of the ball converting 4 majors and 5 behinds to Donnybrook's 2.1 to give them the a 16 point lead at the first term break. The second term saw the magpies hit their stride, converting 9 majors for the term, while also holding the don's to a lone goal to take the margin out to 65 points at the half time break. The third term was once again all magpies, adding a further 6 goals to their score and allowing Donnybrook the kick only 2 majors to stretch their lead out to 92 points. The final term saw the magpies continue on their way, converting 8 majors to Donnybrook's one point. The final margin saw the the magpies up by 142 points. Best players were Michael Biagioni, John Bruce, Jason Fish and Blake Riley.
With several players out injured, and again calling on the colts to play up, the ressie's were looking to get back to their basics with a good win against the don's.
The first term saw the magpies control the majority of the play, converting 4 majors in front of the sticks, while Donnybrook could only manage 4 points for the term. The second term was much like the first, with the magpies dominating every contest and seeing them convert 4 more majors to extend their lead out to 51 points at the half time break. The third term saw the magpies switch it up a gear and pile on the goals, kicking 11 majors and holding the don's scoreless for the term. The last term saw the magpies close out the game with 6 more goals and take the win by 172 points. Best players were Aaron Prince, Keiren Parfitt, Michael Milner and Don Turvey.
Following their loss last week to HBL, the magpies were looking to rebound against the winless don's with a good win to get their spirits back up. The first term was not what the magpies needed with both teams going goal for goal until late in the term when Donnybrook kicked 2 quick goals to take the lead at the first term break by 15 points. The second term saw the magpies pull their fingers out and start playing how they should. They were able to hold Donnybrook to a lone point for the term, but inaccurate shots on goal saw them kick 2.8 and go into the half time break up by only 4 points. It was a different magpies team that can out after the half time break, as from the siren they were there to prove they were the better team. The term saw the magpies hold the don's to only 1.1, while extending their lead by 8 more goals to 47 points. The last term saw Donnybrook mount a late come back with 2 majors, but it was quickly stopped by the pies who then added a further 9 majors to the score to push their lead out to nearly 100 points. The final siren saw the magpies take the win by 95 points. Best players were Nic Hammonds, Jay Reynolds, Daniel McGuinley and Brent Snook.
Welcome back to Aaron Baker aswell this week. It was good to see Bakes running round in the black and white and should be a good boast for the league team.
This week has the magpies on the road against Collie on Sunday. Hope to see the black and white army out and about in Collie.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 9
Dark day for magpies
Well it just wasn't the clubs day. this weeks results saw HBL claim the treble against the pies.
With the colts boy's sitting first by percentage and HBL second, it was going to be a tough game for both teams to see who would come out on top of the ladder. Both teams came out the blocks charging in the first term, with both kicking 4 majors and a few points, but it was the lions with a 1 point lead at the break. The second term was all to close, once again seeing both teams convert only 1 major for the term. The half time score saw the lions still in front with a 3 point lead. The third term was all the magpies, adding 5 more majors to their score while the lions could only manage 2 more of their own to see the margin at 12 points for the magpies. The final term saw HBL take control and out score Busselton 6 goals to 2. The end saw the lions get up by 14 points. Best players were Fraser Sanford, Oli Ryan, Jarod Northover and Jake Johnson.
Following the ressie's miss fortunes last week, they were looking to make up for them this week with a win against the 6th placed lions. The first term saw both teams sharp in front of the big sticks, with the lions out scoring the magpies 6.1 to 4.1 to give them a 12 point buffer going into the first term break. The second term was once again a highly contested affair, with both teams converting 2 points each but it was the lions 4 majors over the magpies 3 majors that saw HBL take a 18 point lead going into the half time break. The third term saw all the accurate kicking go out the window with a staggering 12 points kicked for the term, but it was the lions once again that were able to out score the magpies were it counted, kicking 2 majors to Busselton's 1 and extending their lead to 29 points. The last term mirrored the first three with the lions out scoring the pies, kicking 4 majors to 2. The end saw HBL take the win by 39 points. Best players were Scott Wagner, Mike Robbins, Keagan Watson Richards and Aaron Prince.
After their loss to South's last week, the magpies were looking to get back on the winners stand, but knew not to underestimate the reigning premiers in HBL. The first term saw the magpies very inaccurate in front of the big sticks, kicking 1 major and 6 behinds to which the lions responded to with 6 majors and only 4 behinds to take a 28 point lead going into the first term break. The second term saw the magpies out score HBL and shut down their run, but they only out scored the lions by a single point to bring the margin back to 27 points going into the half time break. The third term was all Busselton, dominating the ball all across the ground and seeing them out score the lions 5 goals to 1 to bring the lead back to only 3 points to HBL. The last term saw the lions change gears and slot home 8 majors while holding the pies to only 2 goals for the term. The end saw HBL take the win by 35 points. Best players were Jay Reynolds, James Price, Mitch Fraser and Daniel McGuinlay.
This week has the magpies at home again taking on Donnybrook. hopefully they can bounce back a claim the treble.
Well done to Brant Roberts on his 50th league game this week. To bad it couldn't have been a win for him.
Be safe, have a good on and get amongst the black and white.

Round 8
Tigers too good for magpies
Well it just wasn't the league boys day. This week had us on the road again taking on South Bunbury at Hands oval on Sunday.
With the colts boy's sitting in third spot on the ladder by percentage, and with the tigers nipping at their heels in fourth, the boy's needed to rebound from last weeks loss. The first term saw both team come out strong, both converting 2 majors for the term, and at the first term break it was the pies up by a single point. The second term saw South Bunbury take control of the game, adding 4 more goals to their score while holding the magpies to only 2 majors for the term. At the half time break it was South Bunbury up by 9 points. The magpies came out charging after the half time break, dominating the third term to see them convert 9 majors to the tigers lone goal to go into the third term break 40 points up. The final term saw the magpies continue their attack, kicking 4 more goals while stopping the tigers attack and holding them to only 2 goals for the term. The end saw the magpies come home victors by 55 points. Best players were Aaron Prince, Mitchell Borinelli, Jacob Nolan and Michael Biagioni.
Well the ressie's boy's were able to get the win against the tigers, but it seem's that they likely loss their 4 points after their was a registration error with one of the players. The error being that the player wasn't cleared to the magpies as the president of the league he was transferring from didn't sign the paper work, the vice president did which is apparently not good enough. Anyway back to the game. The first term saw the magpies come out and dominate the tigers, kicking 5 majors to south's lone goal to see the pies up by 26 points at the break. The second term was more of an even affair, but it was inaccurate shots on goals from both teams that saw only 2 majors kicked for the term. At the half time break it was the magpies up by 25 points. The third term was once again contested heavily by both teams, with the magpies adding 2 more majors to their score while the tigers could only manage a couple of points to see the margin at 36 points to Busselton. the final term again saw only 2 goals kicked, this time going to the tigers. The end saw the magpies winners on the score board by 22 points but that looks set to change. Best players were Mike Robbins, Ryan Pearson, Ryan Wellings and Bear Grylls.
After their hard fought win against the boomers last round, the magpies were out to knock off the unbeaten tigers. They knew it would be though. The first term saw South Bunbury come out and dominate the term, kicking 6 goals to the magpies single major to see the margin out to 30 points at the first term break. The second term saw both teams convert on multiple occasions in front of the big sticks, but it was the tigers that got the better of the term. The half time break saw the tigers up by 38 points. The third therm was much like the first, with South's controlling the ball and converting in front of the big sticks. The third term break saw the tigers up 67 points. The final term saw the magpies hit back and hold the tigers to only 2 majors for the term, but were only able to score 2 majors themselves. The end saw South Bunbury victors by 65 points. Best players were Jordan Eastwell, Sammy Shepherd, Dan Whitehead and James Price.
This week has us at home taking on HBL who have been showing some good form as of late. Lets hope the club can get up and take all three games. Hope to see the magpie army out in force.
This week also marks the 50th league game for Brant Roberts. Hope the boy's can pull off a win fro Robbo.
Don't forget Friday the 24th of June see's the club hosting the 2011 ECHO clothing fashion show. $10 per person with tickets available at Echo or out the club.
Be safe have, a good one and get amongst the black and white army.

Round 7
League boy's snatch the win
Well what a day of footy it was this week as we made the trek to Eaton to take on the boomers. With Eaton sitting 2nd across all 3 grade's, it was going to be a hard day for the pies, and a true test of character.
This was really the first tough game for the colts boy's to date, with the boomers biting at the magpies heels on the ladder. The magpies started out well in the first term, kicking 4 majors straight to the boomers 2 goals 3 points to go into the break 9 points up. The second term however was all Eaton, as they went on to add 5 goals to their score while holding the attacking magpies to only 1 major for the term to see the margin at 15 points in favor of the boomers at the half time break. The young pies came back in the third term, out scoring the boomers 3 majors to 2, bringing the margin back to 11 points going into the last term. But it was not to be as Eaton dominated the last term, converting 6 majors in front of the goals while the pies could only manage 1 goal for themselves. the end saw Eaton get up by 39 points to hand the colts their first loss of the season. Best players were Josh Fleming, Oli Ryan, Jake Nolan and Mike Galliers.
With the boomers sitting unbeaten on the ladder in 2nd place by percentage, the magpies knew it was going to be a hard game for them, and given that they were missing some key players due to injury, it made it harder. The first term saw both teams come out determined to get the upper hand, and at the break there was only 4 points separating them in favor of Eaton. The second term was a complete turn around, with the boomers controlling the majority of play, adding 5 more goal to their score while the magpies could only manage a lone goal to see the boomers with the a lead of 29 points at the half time break. The magpies came out charging in the third term, converting 4 majors to the boomers 1 goal to bring the margin back to 12 points. The last term saw both teams determined to walk away the victors with the magpies kicking 5 majors to the boomers 4 but it wasn't enough to get them over the line. the end saw the magpies go down by 6 points. Best players were Stewy Allen, Brant Roberts, Mick Milner and Jake Grylls.
This weeks league game was picked as the game of the round, and I think it lived up to it's name as it was an absolute cracker. It saw the third placed magpies up against the second placed boomers who were yet to be beaten. The first term saw the magpies unable to convert in front of the big sticks, while Eaton were able to convert 3 majors to see the boomers up by 18 points at the first break. The magpies came back in the second term, shutting down the boomers attack and keeping them scoreless for the term, but the magpies were still inaccurate in front of the sticks kicking 2 goals 5 points to see the boomers still in front at the half time break by 1 single point. It was the reversal of rolls in the third term as the boomers shut down the magpies attack and added a further 16 points to their score to see their lead stretch to 15 points at the third term break. The last term was set up to be a nail bitter with the magpies kicking 4 majors in the last 10 minutes of play and holding the boomers to only a point. The finally siren saw the magpies get home by 9 points to give a bit of pride back to the club for the day. Best players were James Price, Jordan Eastwell, Mitch Fraser and Brad Kearney.
This week has the magpies on the road again taking on South Bunbury in what should be a good 3 games as both teams are all in the top 4. Hope to see the black and white army out in force.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 6
Magpies claim treble against Bulldogs
Well the magpies just keep on rolling along nicely. This week had the magpies hosting the Bunbury bulldogs, and following their loss last week to the bulls, the league boy's were looking for a win.
With the colt's still undefeated at this point of the season, everyone was expecting then to come out and blow Bunbury away, but it was the other way around for the opening 3 quarters. The first term saw both teams come out hard, but it was the magpies inaccurate shots on goal that cost them the lead going into the first term break. At the break it was the bulldogs up 5 goals straight to the magpies 3.4. The second term was all square as the scoring went, with both teams converting majors on 4 occasions, but it was once again the pies inaccurate shooting that cost them the lead going into the half time break. After the half time break the young pies came out all guns blazing, shutting down the bulldogs attack and allowing to only add a single point to their score while adding 2 more majors to their own score to go into the third term break up by 10 points. The last term once again saw both teams kick the same amount of majors with 2 each, but it was the magpies inaccurate score from the previous terms that saw them up at the final siren. The end saw the pies get up by 12 points. Best players were Jacob Nolan, Scott Jones, Brandon Hughs and Jobe McShane.
Going into the game with a win loss record of 4 and 1, the ressie's were looking pretty good sitting 3rd on the ladder. The first term saw the magpies go straight into attack mode, dominating the term with 6 majors to Bunbury's single goal. The second term was very much a repeat of the first with the magpies dominating all across the ground, converting in front of the sticks on 7 occasions to Bunbury's 2 majors to see the pies go into the half time break up by 64 points. After the half time break, the bulldogs started to find themselves, stopping the run of the magpies and restricting them to only 3 majors for the term while also adding 3 majors to their score to see the margin at 67 points going into the last. The final term saw the bulldogs actually out score the pies for the quarter 4 majors to 3, but with the magpies hard work in the previous 3 terms, they easily accounted for the bulldogs. The final score saw the magpies get up by 66 points. Best players were Tony Page, Luke Strahan, Sean Trombetta and Mick Milner.
Following their loss last week to the Harvey bulls, the league boy's were looking to redeem themselves against the bulldogs and show that their a force to be reckoned with. The first term saw Bunbury get the better of the magpies, seeing them able to convert 5 goals to the pies 3 to put them up by 12 points at the first term break. The second term saw the magpies hit back and out score Bunbury 4 majors to the dogs 2. At the half time break it was the magpies with the lead by 2 points. Both teams came out determined and contested hard for the ball in the third term. It was that close that at the siren for the third term break it was all even, setting up for a nail biting final term. The final term saw a very contested and hard fought quarter, with only a hand full of goals kicked between both teams. But it was the magpies that came out the winners at the final siren by 11 points. Best players were Timmy Ioannou, Jay "pig dog" Reynolds, Daniel McGuinley and Jackson Arbon. Congrates to both Tom Beagley and Damian Lee on making their league debuts for the club with both holding their own ion the side with 3 majors each.
This week has us on the road facing the Eaton Boomers on Sunday, Don't forget that this Sunday night is also the clubs "Dress to Impress" Cocktail party held back at the footy club after the game. Cost is $20 per person, doors open at 7.30. Get amongst it.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 5
2 out of 3 against the bulls
This week saw the magpies on the road to Harvey, to take on the bulls. After coming off of a treble against Carey park the previous round, the club was looking to continue their winning ways.
With 4 wins from 4 games to their names, the young magpies colts were looking to continue the trend against the bulls. The first term saw the magpies control a lot of the ball, converting up forward through spearhead Tom Beagley who was looking sharp in front of the sticks. The second term was more even then the first, as both teams were finding the middle of the big sticks on multiple occasions. At the half time break it was the magpies up by 5 majors. The third term was all the magpies as they shut down the bulls runners, allowing then to only add a single goal to their tally while adding a further 5 majors to their own score, to go into the third term break 10 goals up. The last term saw Harvey put up a bit of a fight, holding the magpies to only 4 majors but only being able to add a lone goal to their own score. The end saw the magpies take the win by 76 points. Best players were Tom Beagley with a lazy 8 goals straight, Mike Galliers, Damian Lee and Angus Sargent.
Following their win over the panthers last round, the ressie's wanted to continue their winning ways, and with a few big inclusions into the line up for the game it was looking good. The pies controlled the ball in the first term, converting 6 majors to the bulls 2 to go into the break up by 26 points. The second term saw the magpies dominate at every contest, resulting in the bulls adding only a single point to their score while the magpies added a further 5 to their score. Going into the half time break it was the pies up by 60 points. The third term saw the bulls make a charge, but it wasn't very strong as it resulted in them scoring 2 points, but they big manage to hold the pies to only 2 majors for the term. The final term saw the magpies find the big sticks once again, converting 6 majors in front of goal to run home winners by 110 points. Best players were Kelly Duthie, Jake Grylls, Matt Harbeck and Tom Sibson.
The league boy's were on a roll thus fare into the season, sitting in third place on the ladder as a undefeated team. But as can sometimes, happen the magpies went into the game showing no respect for their opposition which came back to kick them. The first term saw the pies open the scoring as was expected, kicking 6 majors to the bulls 2 to go into the break 26 points up. However it wasn't good for the pies as big man Brent Hall called it a day due to a troublesome hammy. The bulls came back fighting in the second term, piling on 10 majors to the magpies 3. The half time break saw the bulls up by 15 points. The magpies came back in the third term, kicking 6 majors to Harvey's 2, but it was only enough to send them into the third term break 8 points up. The last term saw both teams fighting hard to stay in control, but it was the bulls who fought harder, adding 6 more majors to their score while the magpies could only add 3 goals. The end saw the Bulls take the win by 7 points. Best players were Ben Grace with another stellar performance in front of goals with 8 majors, James Price, Jake Reynolds and Daniel McGinnley.
Congrate's to Kim Harper on his first league game for the club, unfortunately it wasn't a win for him.
This week see's us at home on Sunday against Bunbury. Hopefully we can turn the league's loss around and get three wins for the club.
Don't forget to mark the "dress to impress" cocktail party on your calendars. It's on the 5th of June which yes is a Sunday, but the Monday is a holiday. Cost is $20 per head. Get amongst it.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 4
Magpies take the treble at home against the panthers
Get on board the magpie express and belt up. This week had the magpies playing Carey park at home on Sunday in the belt up week clash, and with Busselton having held on to a close win against Margies last week, it was going to be a hard game against the hard running panthers.
With the colts looking good atop the ladder, it was going to be a good game up against last years premiers. The first term saw the magpies control the majority of the play, converting in front of goal on 4 occasions. The second term saw the panthers lift a little to put some pressure back on the magpies with 5 majors, but it was the pies that got the better of the term, adding 8 more majors to their score to take the half time lead to 28 points. The third term saw the magpies shut down the panthers attack, allowing them to score only 1 major while adding a further 4 to their score to take the margin out to 49 points going into the last term. The final term saw the magpies slack off to allow the panthers to kick 8 goals to the magpies 7 goals. Luckily the boy's had done enough earlier to get the win with the end seeing the pies up by 42 points. Best players were Mike Galliers, Josh Fleming, Jacob Nolan, Mitch Sidebottom and Blake Riley.
The ressie's were looking to make up for their loss last week to the hawks with a good win against the panthers this week. A win it was but it wasn't a good win. The first term saw a very level game with both teams kicking 2 majors each, but it was the magpies up by a point at the break. The second term was almost a repeat of the first, with both teams attacking the ball hard, but the panthers wanted it more and it showed as the half time break saw Carey park up by 5 points. After a spray from coach Dom Trombetta during the break, the pies came out determined and firing, converting in front of the big sticks 6 times to the panthers 2 to see a 22 point margin in favor to the pies. The final term saw Busselton hold an attacking Carey park to only 2 majors while adding 4 to their own score. The end saw the pies get up by 45 points. Best players were Ryan Pearson, Kim Harper, Alex Trombetta, Blair Dalziell and Dan Riley.
After their hard fought win against Margie's last week, the magpies were looking to continue their good unbeaten form. But it was going to hard following the loss of three big stars to injury with co skipper Brad Kearney out with a quad, Cam White out with a groin and the unfortunate loss of mid fielder Nigell Lee to a season ending knee injury.
The first term saw the panthers come out hard and fast, kicking an accurate 5.1 to the magpies 2.4. The second term saw Busselton get back to within a couple of kicks. But it was their inaccurate shots on goal that let the lead get away from them as they kicked 5.6 to Carey park's 4.1 to see the half time margin only 4 points to the parkers. The third term saw the magpies simply dominate the ball and they found their radar as well. The pies were able to convert 9 majors and a single point for the term while shutting the panthers down to let them only add 1.2 to their score to see the margin out to 44 points to the pies. The final term saw the pies start out strong but let the pressure ease off at the end which saw Carey park get some goals back pretty easily. But at the final siren it was the pies up by 29 points to see them still undefeated. As it was Belt up week the best player on the field was presented the game ball, and following a 30 odd possie and 3 goal effort it went to Jordan Eastwell. Best players were Eastwell, Nic Hammonds, Daniel McGinlay, Dave Whitehead and Mitch Fraser. Congrates to new pie Aaron Turvey on playing his first league game for the club.
Next week has us on the road against the Harvey bulls. Let's hope the club can continue on with their winning ways. Hope to see the black and white army out in force for this away game.
Be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.

Round 3
Magpies hold off hawkers
Well what a week in footy it's been for the magpies. This week had us on the road taking on Augusta Margaret river on Saturday night in what was to be a nail biting finish for the league boy's.
It wasn't the usual order of business this week as it has come to be that at every clash with AMR, the colts and ressie's swap orders, therefore resulting in the ressie's kicking off the days proceedings. Amr got the early jump on the game, kicking 2 majors before the magpies could score. At the first term break it was AMR up by 2 goals. The magpies kicked back in the second term to bring get within 1 goal of the hawks, whose inaccurate goal kicking cost them going into the half time break. After the half time break, both teams fought hard for the ball at every contest. It resulted in only 3 majors being kicked for the term with it being 2 to AMR to take their lead out to 2 goals at the third term break. The final term saw AMR add a further 4 majors to their score while the magpies could only manage 4 points to see the hawks take the win by 35 points and draw first blood for the day. Best players were Jake " Bear " Grylls, Keagan Watson-Richards, Alex Trombetta, Kim Harper and Stewy Gregson.
With the colts sitting first on the ladder following a couple of easy wins, it was going to be a harder game against the hawks who were sitting in second. The first term proved to be what most expected as the score at the break had it all tied up with 3 majors a piece. The second term saw the magpies take control of the game, shutting down their opposition's scoring, while also adding 4 more majors to the score to see the pies up by 19 at the major break. The third term saw the hawks hit back on the score board, while the pies could only add an extra goal to see the margin at only 8 points going into the last. The final term saw the magpies step it up a gear and add a further 5 majors to their score while AMR could only add a single goal to see the final score at 31 points in favor to the magpies to level the games at 1 a piece. Best players were Blake Riley, Jacob Nolan, Troy McLean, Mason Hislop and Scott Jones.
The league game was picked as the game of the round and it lived up to the title. With both teams coming off of good wins in the first 2 rounds the magpies and hawks were looking to be the big improvers from last season, but when it comes to the southern derby you can throw out all previous form as it's something else that fire's up both teams. It's like any derby at any level, there's just that hatred for the opposition once out on the field. The first term was a very even contest that saw the magpies in front by a goal at the first term break. The second term saw the magpies again control the term by adding a further 6 majors to their score while the hawks could only add 4 to see the margin out to 14 points at the major break. Amr came out charging in the third term, converting 7 times in front of goal while also holding the magpies to only 1 major for the term. The third term break saw AMR in front by 8 points. The final term started out with what came only be described as a monumental cock up by the hawks that resulted in them having 19 players on the field at the start of play. Funnily enough it was number 19 that was the 19nth man on the field. With a quick shout of a head count from CO-captain Sammy Shepherd the umpire's awarded a free kick to the magpies for the hawks penalty that saw big man Brent Hall convert from 50 out to bring the score back to 2 points. It was a hot and fierce final term that saw the lead go back and fourth, but a the final siren it was the pies in front by 4 points to end a great game of footy. Special thanks to Laurie Saltarini's Busselton Toyota for sponsoring the game with the Toyota cup. Best on field was awarded to big man Brent Hall for his 5 goal 30 odd possession performance. Best players were Hall, Nic Hammonds, Nigell Lee, Jordan Eastwell and James Price. Congrat's to Daniel McGinlay and Mitchy Fraser on their debuts for the magpies league team.
This week see's the magpies taking on Carey park at Busselton on Sunday. Hope to see the black and white army out in force at the game.
As always be safe, have a good one and get amongst the black and white.
Tobes.

Round 2
Magpies to good for Eagles at home
In previous years following a general bye the magpies haven't had the best of luck, but this week it seemed to work for the boy's as they took on Collie at home on Saturday night. The result was 3 good wins for the magpies.
Having come off of a 222 point win over the don's in the opening round, the colt's were looking to back up that good form against the eagles. The opening term saw the magpies come out strong, kicking 4 majors to Collie's 2, but with 2 players getting injured and not taking anymore part in the game, it was going to be a hard task to keep the pressure on. The second term started like the first finished with another player calling it quit's for the day with injury, taking the bench down to one player but the pie's held their cool and controlled the term. Going into the half time break it was the magpies 7.4 to Collie 2.3. The magpies came out hard in the third term, converting 7 majors in front of the goal's to Collie's 2 majors. The final term saw the pie's ease off a bit and get sloppy in front of the big sticks as they could only manage 2 majors but 7 behinds while the eagles added a further 3 goals to their score. The end saw Busselton up by 51 points. Best player's were Damian Lee, Adam Wera, Jake Nolan and Angus Sargent.
The ressie's were also looking to continue their good form from the Donnybrook game, and with good numbers to pick a side from it was going to be a good team. The first term saw some very contested passages of play, but it was the magpies able to use the pill more effectively in front of the big sticks, converting 5 times to Collie's 2. the second term was once again all black and white with the magpie's holding collie to only 2 majors while they added a further 7 goals to their score to go into half time in front by 52 points. Nothing was left in the change rooms after half time as the magpies simply dominated the term, kicking 9 majors and only letting Collie kick a single goal. The final term saw the magpies keep the pressure on the eagles and just didn't look like missing when in front of the big sticks, adding a further 11 majors to their score. The end saw the magpies waltz home with the win by 162 points to continue their good form.
Best players were Mitch Fraser, Jeremy " Spud " Murphy, new recruit Daniel Mcguinley and Bear Grylls.
Following their victory against the don's 2 weeks ago, the league boy's knew that they didn't play well for the first half and needed to improve on it for when they faced a top 5 side. The magpies came out strong in the first term against Collie, and with Ben Grace looking sharp in front of the big sticks the pies went into the break 4 goals up. They didn't let up in the second term, using their control of the ball more effectively then their opponents and at the half time break the magpies lead was out to 46 points. The third term saw a little 3 goal flurry from Collie to start but that was soon squashed as the pies booted 5 more majors. At the third term break it was the magpies up by 62 points and they didn't look like stopping there. The magpies simply dominated the last term that saw 9 more majors converted in front of goals. The end saw the magpies up by 104 points. Best players were James Price, Jordan Eastwell, Ben Grace with a 12 goal 1 point performance and Nigell Lee.
This week see's us on the road for a Saturday night outing against our southern cousin's Augusta Margaret river were we are playing for the Busselton Toyota cup kindly donated by Laurie Saltarini. With AMR sitting second and the magpies first in both colt's and ressie's, and with our league boy's second and AMR fourth it should be a good afternoon of footy as both clubs are looking to be on the improve from last year.
Hope to see the black and white army out in full for the Busselton Toyota southern derby this week. The derbies are always a good game were previous years form doesn't mean a thing leading up to then as it's all about the bragging rights.
As always, be safe and have a good one.

Round 1
3 from 3 against Donnybrook
Well it's officially footy season, as this week saw the South West Football League kick of the 2011 home and away season. The opening round saw the magpies making the trek to Donnybrook to take on the Don's, and after coming off of a good hard preseason the club were determined to make a vast improvement on last years placing's across all 3 grades.
The colt's boy's made a good start to the 2011 season with a very good win under the guidance of new coach Kevin Hutchins, assistant Rick Puff and runner Brad Scott who all bring a good knowledge of the game to the table. The side also saw a lot of new faces make the jump to colt's from 17's, but watching the side play you couldn't tell. The first term saw the start of what was to be a long day for Donnybrook and a good day for the pie's, with the young pie's controlling the majority of the play that saw them kick 8 major's for the opening term to the don's 3 points. The second term was again all black and white, holding Donnybrook scoreless but only being able to convert 4 majors and a disappointing 8 behinds to go into the halftime break 81 points up.
The third term saw the young pie's come out and use the ball more effectively up forward, kicking 13 major's and only 6 behinds and once again kept the don's scoreless for the term. The final term saw the don's make a late surge, kicking the opening goal, but it wasn't to be as the magpies slotted 8 more major's and 7 behinds to waltz home victors by 222 points. While the win was good for the boy's, they were told not to get too cocky as Donnybrook's team wasn't that flashiest in the comp.
Best players for the colt's were Tye Denton, Aaron Prince, Jesse Gautrey and Tom Beagley.
On paper the ressie's team looked pretty good as it consisted of some of last years league players who didn't make the cut for this weeks league side, but for new coach Dom Trombetta and assistant Brett Pitt it was going to be a challenge to see if the mixed bag of players could gel together, and gel they did. The opening term saw the magpies come out and dominate early, controlling the term and kicking 9 majors and 6 behinds while keeping Donnybrook scoreless. The pies again controlled the second term. With Adam Booth directing the mid field and spearhead Dean Howlett finding the middle of the big sticks down forward, the pie's were able to convert 9 more majors for the term and again keep Donnybrook scoreless going into the halftime break. The third term was once again all black and white with the pies just dominating all across the ground at ever contest. Even with the game already in the back the boy's didn't back off, however their kicking at goal was a bit disappointing as while they kicked 6 majors they also added on 12 behinds to their score. The final term saw the don's get on the board with 2 majors, which for our boy's was good as it gave them a percentage for the game. But the end saw the pie's add 10 more major's to run home victor's by 217 points.
Just like the colt's were told, the ressie's need to not get cocky, as Donnybrook's team wasn't anything to write home about.
Best players were Matt Harbeck, Adam Booth, Noosa boy Stewy Allen and young gun Mitchy Fraser.
Having finished in 8th position last year, the league boy's were looking to improve dramatically in the 2011 season and having spent the summer recruiting and resigning key players, there was a lot of positive words coming from new league coach Darian Cheffers and his assistant Wayne Hernaman. The preseason saw the return of former magpie's Nigell Lee and Jordan Eastwell to the nest, as well as the arrival of Noosa boy Jay Reynolds who had been talked up highly by former teammates Nic Hammonds, Adam Booth and Brad Kearney, who was returning from a broken arm that saw him miss all of the 2010 season.
The first term saw both teams come out firing in what was to be a heated game. At the first term break it was the magpies up by only a single goal. The second term was a repeat of the first with both teams going goal for goal and both determined not to let the other get the upper hand. At the halftime break it was the pie's in front by 4 points. The magpie's came out determined in the third term using the ball more effectively through the mid field through the very talented and always casual looking Jordy Eastwell. With big gun Ben Grace up forward finding the middle of the big sticks, the pie's were able to get a 3 goal advantage on the don's at the third term break. The final term saw the pie's keep their composure and cool, once again controlling the ball all across the ground. The final score saw the pie's extend their lead to 64 points and come home victor's.
Best players were spearhead Ben Grace, Noosa recruit Jay Reynolds, returning pie Jordy Eastwell and 17 year old pocket rocket Sean Trombetta.
Overall it was a good start to the season for all the grades. This week see's a general bye for all 3 grade's for Easter and ANZAC day with everyone returning to action the following week that see's use taking on the Collie eagles at home on a Saturday night so come out and get amongst it.
Hope you all have a happy Easter and be safe and have a good one.
